On the first day of Passover (the 15th day of the Hebrew month of Nisan), the Torah reading in the synagogue is a portion from the book of Exodus that describes Moses’ instructing the elders of Israel the laws of Passover and the final plague that God brought upon Egypt, the death of the firstborn, and the subsequent Exodus of the Jewish people from slavery.
